Cruz Foam

Are you searching for an eco-friendly option to replace EPS foam?

What is Cruz Foam?

Cruz Foam is revolutionary packaging foam made from repurposed food waste. This biobased material has been tested and verified as high performing protective packaging as well as for cold chain applications.

USDA Certified Biobased Product
Cruz Foam contains 100% USDA certified biobased content.
Compostable
Standalone Cruz Foam meets the ASTM 6400 and D6868 standards for compostability. Cruz Foam reached 97.9% biodegradation within 60 days.
Cruz Foam is made from chitin, a material derived from shrimp shells and sustainably sourced from naturally occurring waste streams in the seafood industry.

By diverting this waste from landfills and using it to create a product that replaces another landfill-bound product - conventional packaging foam - Cruz Foam contributes to a circular economy.

Introducing an innovative solution to sustainable packaging supplies: Cruz Foam

With approximately 2.2 million tons of EPS foam being produced annually, and with 87% of consumers explicitly concerned about packaging waste, Cruz Foam is dedicated to making packaging better.

Cruz Foam, a California-based startup dedicated to developing sustainable alternatives to conventional packaging materials, has partnered with A New Earth Project and Atlantic Packaging as its go-to-market partners. Together, they are proud to introduce a biodegradable packaging material that is eco-friendly and can decompose naturally.

To make Cruz Foam, shrimp shells are treated with a proprietary solution that breaks down the chitin in the shells and turns it into a biodegradable foam material. The resulting foam is strong, lightweight, and can be used for a variety of applications, from packaging to insulation.

Benefits of Switching to Cruz Foam
Reduced Waste
One of the key benefits of Cruz Foam is that it’s made from a waste product that would otherwise be discarded, reducing the amount of waste generated by the seafood industry. The company aims to create a closed-loop system, where the waste created from Cruz Foam production is used to create more foam or is returned to the environment.
Environmental Sustainability
Biodegradable packaging materials are designed to break down naturally without causing harm to the environment. This can help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or oceans, and can also reduce the need for non-renewable resources.
Consumer Appeal
Many consumers are increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of the products they buy, and are attracted to products that use eco-friendly packaging material.
Regulatory Compliance
Many countries and regions are introducing regulations to reduce the use of plastic packaging materials. In fact, California’s new Plastic Pollution and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act–the most ambitious packaging EPR program ever passed—makes the switch to biodegradable packaging highly relevant.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
Many biodegradable packaging materials are made from renewable sources, such as plants, which can help reduce the carbon footprint associated with traditional packaging materials.
Versatility
Biodegradable packaging can be used for a wide range of applications, from food packaging to shipping materials, making it a versatile alternative to traditional packaging.
