Partnering with Honolulu Zoo for Sustainable Practices

At A New Earth Project, we're committed to supporting conservation efforts that protect and preserve our planet's unique ecosystems. One of our latest collaborations is with the Honolulu Zoo, whose mission is conserving native Hawaiian species and educating the community about the importance of environmental stewardship. We are proud to support them in helping to implement sustainable practices in their operations.

Breeding Programs for Native Species

The Honolulu Zoo has been actively involved in breeding programs for some of Hawaii's most endangered species, including the Kamehameha butterfly, a native species that plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem. They are also working on propagating rare Hawaiian snails, some of which have dwindled to just a few dozen individuals in the wild. These efforts are vital in ensuring the survival of these species and maintaining biodiversity. As part of their conservation efforts, the Honolulu Zoo also houses a collection of native species, including the native owl quail and various native waterfowl.

Sharing the Stories

We are inspired by how passionate this team is about their work and the animals they care for. We  love how they are sharing the stories of these animals with the wider community to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Hawaii's unique wildlife. We believe, as they do, in the power of storytelling for sparking awareness and inspiring empathy for all life on our shared planet.

Educating and Inspiring Change

The zoo's mission extends beyond conservation; they aim to inspire people to care for the environment and take action to preserve it. By educating visitors about the native species and the challenges they face, the zoo hopes to encourage individuals to make changes that will help protect the environment. This commitment to education and advocacy aligns so well our goals here at A New Earth Project.

Sustainable Practices in Animal Care Operations

Since joining the zoo, the team has been working to implement sustainable practices in their operations. One of the challenges they faced was the amount of waste generated, particularly with the shipping of perishable samples to mainland labs.

In their quest for a sustainable alternative to the EPS foam coolers they were using for these perishable shipments, the team discovered A New Earth Project. We were excited to introduce them to Cruz Cool, an alternative that reduces the use of harmful chemicals and minimizes environmental impact. By switching to eco-friendly shipping materials, the zoo can continue to provide essential medical care for their animals while also protecting the environment.

A Shared Vision for a Better Future

Our partnership with the Honolulu Zoo is a testament to the power of collaboration in achieving conservation goals. Together, we are working to create a safer and healthier environment for both people and animals. We are excited to support the zoo's efforts and look forward to continuing our work together to inspire positive change and protect our planet's precious ecosystems.

At A New Earth Project, we believe that every small step towards sustainability makes a significant difference. By supporting initiatives like those at the Honolulu Zoo, we can help ensure a brighter future for all living beings.
