Your journey to sustainable packaging starts here
In response to the escalating plastic pollution crisis, a wave of new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws are being introduced across the United States. States like California, Oregon, Colorado, Minnesota, and Maine are leading the charge, with more expected to join soon. If your brand sells consumer packaged goods in these states, you’ll need to pay attention.
EPR laws mean brands will soon pay eco-modulated fees based on their packaging choices. Recyclable or compostable materials will incur lower fees, while more problematic packaging will face higher costs. These fees will fund updates to each state’s recycling and composting systems, overseen by a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) like the Circular Action Alliance.
At A New Earth Project, we see intelligent EPR policies as a game-changer, driving us away from single-use plastics toward sustainable packaging solutions. However, to succeed, we must address key issues, align incentives properly, and foster innovation. That’s why we’re leveraging our decades of expertise to collaborate with stakeholders across the industry.
Don’t be daunted by these changes—they’re an opportunity for growth. If you’re doing business in California, you’re already required to register with the PRO. Preparing now will set you ahead.
