In an effort to build a circular economy, we support initiatives that give communities the tools they need to keep valuable materials—like food scraps and compostable packaging—out of landfills and in circulation. That’s why we’re proud to support the 2025 Composting Consortium Grant Program, launched by Closed Loop Partners in collaboration with the US Composting Council (USCC) and the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
This new grant program is designed to help composters and municipalities across the U.S. expand their capacity to process certified compostable packaging and food scraps—critical steps toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and regenerating healthy soils.
Why It Matters
Today, most composting facilities in the U.S. still only accept yard trimmings, and many communities lack the infrastructure to handle compostable packaging. This grant program addresses that gap by funding:
- Equipment upgrades to reduce contamination from conventional plastics
- Trials for including compostable packaging in composting streams
- Public education and outreach to improve participation and reduce confusion
