Florence Marine X embodies the spirit of adventure and innovation, inspired by its founder, 2X Olympian and 3X World Champion Surfer, John John Florence. This team is dedicated to creating utilitarian equipment that's rigorously tested in one of the most dynamic environments on earth – Oahu’s North Shore.
John John Florence was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in Hale'iwa, in an ocean-side house at Banzai Pipeline. He first rode on a surfboard when he was six months old, and he was surfing on his own by the age of five. By the age of 13, Florence became the youngest surfer ever to compete in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. He has since become one of the most dominant pipe surfers of his era, winning back-to-back world titles on the 2016 and 2017 World Surf League Men's Championship Tour.
John John's company, Florence Marine X, offers a range of products including board shorts, wetsuits, UPF tops, T-shirts, and water-ready hats. Each product is designed to motivate people to get outside and thrive in the elements, while also doing their best to protect the ocean and the land.
A key aspect of Florence Marine X's commitment to sustainability is their adoption of New Earth Approved packaging materials. This includes the use of Vela bags to replace single-use plastic garment bags to help in reducing plastic waste and promoting environmentally friendly practices.
Florence Marine X is deeply committed to responsible manufacturing and sustainable business practices. According to Bruce Moore, Director of Innovation & Sustainability, "We're doing our best to make things in a way that help preserve the places we love and explore every day." The brand uses almost exclusively recycled materials in their gear, including recycled polyester and organic cotton. They also utilize Recover™ technology to transform textile waste into high-quality recycled fibers.
In addition to their focus on materials, Florence Marine X ensures that their manufacturing partners adhere to sustainable and humane practices. They prioritize factories that convert floor scraps into recycled textiles, capture rainwater for smarter water usage, and provide good working conditions and additional education programs for workers.
The team at A New Earth Project is proud to work with Florence Marine X and to help them meet their sustainability goals. Together, we are committed to creating a better future for our planet by promoting innovative and responsible practices in the outdoor and sportswear industry.
